Ecological Characteristics by the Vegetation Type and Restoration Plans for Baekbongryeong Forest Wetland
Abstract
In this study, the ecological characteristics of a forest wetland were analyzed based on the appearing vegetation, ongoing damages were identified and suitable restorative measures were recommended. Field surveys were conducted at 20 sites across the Baekbongryeong forest wetland area in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, using the Z-M phytosociological method. Vegetation types were classified using two-way indicator species analysis, and table manipulation. Importance percentage, species diversity, and analysis of wetland plant types were conducted for each community, resulting in the creation of an actual vegetation map. The vascular plants of the studied site included 48 families, 107 genera, 134 species, 4 subspecies, 24 varieties, 3 forma, and a total of 165 taxa. The vegetation types were classified into the Larix kaempferi-Symplocos sawafutagi community(C1) and the Fraxinus mandshurica-Carex forficula community(C2). C2 showed higher importance percentage and proportion of wetland plants in comparison to C1. This indicated that disturbance and landization were more advanced in C1 compared to C2. Additionally, during the extension construction of the adjacent Road No.42 in 2019, six new drainage channels were established. This resulted in the creation of new watersheds and subsequent occurrences of soil collapse·erosion·leakage, and damage to facilities. Recommendations were made to aim at restoring and sustainably conserving the forest wetland.
