Abstract

This study was conducted to understand the characteristics of the plants society on Bulgapsan Provincial Park, which lacks research on plants, and to establish basic data necessary for sustainable vegetation management and provincial park research. Plants Social Network(PSN) analysis, which aims to understand the interactions of plants communities based on the social relationships between species, is valuable as a new approach. A total of 128 quadrats were set up in Bulgapsan Provincial Park to survey woody species, and species with a frequency of occurrence below 5% were excluded. Chi-square statistic analysis was performed to analyze the species associations. Based on this, a sociogram was created using the Gephi 0.10 program, and network analysis was conducted. The PSN of Bulgapsan Provincial Park, as analyzed, consisted of 64 nodes and 468 edges. On average, each species was associated with about 14.6 other species, and they were connected with an average of 2.08 steps. The groups identified were as follows: Group 1 included Carpinus tschonoskii, Group 2 included Neolitsea sericea and Torreya nucifera, Group 3 included Quercus serrata and Q. variabilis, Group 4 included Cornus controversa and Platycarya strobilacea. Central species in the network included Viburnum erosum, Orixa japonica, Lindera obtusiloba, Rubus corchorifolius and Zanthoxylum piperitum.
