A Study on the Vegetation Structure of the Seonunsan Provincial Park of Korea
Abstract
This study investigated the community classification of Seonunsan Provincial Park by establishing 60 quadrat plots of 400㎡ each from 2024 to 2025. Using the phytosociological method and CCA ordination, the Vegetation of the study area was classified into 12 communities: Pinus densiflora community, Carpinus laxiflora community, Quercus variabilis community, Q. aliena community, Q. serrata community, C. turczaninovii community, Camellia japonica community, Zelkova serrata community, Q. dentata community, P. thunbergii community, Celtis sinensis community, and Q. mongolica community. The importance values across all communities were highest for Q. variabilis (35.08), followed by P. densiflora(32.65), Q. serrata(24.31), C. laxiflora(23.13), and Q. aliena(20.67). An analysis of diameter at breast height (DBH) classes for major species with high importance values revealed that Q. variabilis and P. densiflora exhibited a stable distribution patterns, suggesting that they are likely to maintain their dominance for a certain period. In contrast, Q. serrata, C. turczaninovii and C. laxiflora displayed an inverse J-shaped distribution pattern, indicating a potential increase in the future dominance. Analysis of the soil in the study area showed pH values ranging from 4.22 to 4.97, with an average of 4.65. This study showed the correlation between each community and the environment according to CCA ordination. The C. turczaninovii community predominated on the southern slope of the park in the high elevation habitats, characterized by high T-N, O.M, C.E.C, and Na+, and low pH. The Camellia japonica community mainly occurred on the southern slope of the park in low- elevation habitats on the southern slope, characterized by high P2O5. The Z. serrata community and Celtis sinensis community were distributed in valley areas on the low-elevation northern slope, characterized by high pH and low O.M, C.E.C, and T-N. The P. thunbergii community predominated on the low-gradient northern slope of the park, which had low O.M, C.E.C, T-N, P2O5, and high pH, Ca2+.
